Chinatown, Petaling StreetChinatown, Petaling Street: Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown or Petaling Street is the ideal place for bargains and a taste of local colour. A bustling hub set in the centre of the older part of the city, shops here offer a variety of textiles, clothes, shoes and handbags at bargain prices. The area is also known for its jewellery shops with a variety of fine jewellery crafted in gold and set with gemstones.

Nepalese traders offer exotic ethnic jewellery. There are wall hangings, ornaments, curios and teapots from India and Myanmar. Make-shift and mobile stalls jam the streets with offerings of dried foodstuff, herbs, fruits, flowers and herbal remedies. This extraordinarily busy street becomes a shopping carnival at night with stalls peddling ethnic goods, clothing, cosmetics, watches, leather goods and much more.

Formula One, Sepang International Circuit: Possibly the largest and most prestigious annual event held in Malaysia is the Petronas Malaysian F1 Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

Located just outside Kuala Lumpur - the capital city, the track can accommodate up to 130,000 spectators at a time. In recognition of its ultramodern facilities, it was given the rare honour of incorporating the F1 logo in its name. The race at the SIC is among the fastest in the world with extreme hot and wet conditions. A true test for track warriors!

National Science Centre or Pusat Sains Neagara: Situated in a pleasant environment, the National Science Centre stands on a small hill in Bukit Kiara on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. Established in 1996 to promote science and technology in Malaysia, the centre features themed exhibits such as An Environmental Odyssey, Pathways to Discovery, Future World and Thinking Machines.

Visitor interaction with the exhibits encourages and promotes interest in Science and Technology. Science is linked to the environment and religion, as well as to explain the use of scientific knowledge and applications in daily life.

The National Science Centre is open:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9.00 am - 5.00 pm
  • Friday: 9.00 am - 12.15 pm & 2.45 pm - 5.00 pm
  • Saturday: 9.00 am - 1.30 pm
  • The National Science Centre is closed on Sundays & Public holidays

Petronas Twin Towers, KLCC: Located on the old site of the Royal Turf Club in the heart of the capital city, the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) is truly a spectacular sight. Here, the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers, the world's tallest twin structures, soars to a dizzying height of 452 metres. Inspired by the Five Pillars of Islam, this gleaming mega-structure was designed by Argentinian-American architect Cesar Pelli. Below lies a beautifully landscaped fountain park designed by prominent Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. KLCC is also home to the world-class Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Suria Shopping Centre and Petronas Philharmonic Hall.
